Your Support Matters: Non-profits around the world are trying to maintain their service to communities through the coronavirus crisis. As the largest employer of people who are blind in the country, we know we need to do everything we can to support our employees and their wellbeing. That’s why we have launched the People First Fund, devoting our own dollars to the best investment we can make – our people.

Since the fund was established, it has helped hundreds of employees with both financial assistance and job retraining programs, enabling furloughed employees to come back to work to support IFB’s essential production for the U.S. Armed Forces. The People First Fund also will secure the future of IFB’s summer camps and after school activities for children who are blind, both of which are currently closed. The Fund will remain active as our communities return to a new normal. Donations to the People First Fund can be made below.

Roderick Wilson’s COVID-19 Story

How the People First Fund Changed My Life

My name is Roderick Wilson and I’ve been working at IFB for 19 years. As a person who is blind, I am so thankful for IFB and the opportunities it gives people like me. This year, IFB was more important than ever. I contracted COVID-19, which can be unsettling for anyone, but being blind made it very difficult. It felt like the flu on steroids. The anxiety of not knowing how COVID-19 would affect me in the end was overwhelming.

IFB and the People First Fund took a lot of stress off my shoulders. The People First Fund truly puts people first. It helps with things like job training and supports those who contract the virus or need to quarantine to keep others safe. Knowing my company and community supported me through a tough time meant the world to me.

I’m so happy to be back at work and healthy. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to be here today to tell you how your donations have made a difference in my life. Please help IFB make the difference in the lives of more people who are blind. Thank you!
