The IFB Beat 9-1 Edition

A Message from the Editor

Happy Labor Day! May it be a time of rest, celebration, and appreciation for all the hard work you contribute each day.

This week we’re excited to bring you a full lineup of stories that highlight the heart of our IFB family — celebrations, new beginnings, and inspiration to carry with you.

This week we bring back Inspiration Station, a new feature designed to give you a moment to pause, reflect, and recharge. Think of it as a gentle reminder that your contributions matter and that we’re all “a different kind of important.”

We’re also thrilled to welcome new teammates to our IFB family and to celebrate our Employees of the Month for May, June, and July. Thank you for the dedication you bring to your work each and every day.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Winston-Salem Summer Picnic on September 11, where trivia, karaoke, and Dairi-O treats await! Plus, take a look back at the highlights from Asheville’s “Aloha Summer” picnic to see the joy and connection that comes when we gather together outside of work.

And don’t miss our Employee Spotlight, featuring Shareff Stewart from the Rags and Wipes department. From his love of music to his passion for helping others with technology, Shareff is a great reminder of the unique gifts each of us brings to IFB.

Quote of the week:

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
— Walt Disney

Inspiration Station

Welcome to Inspiration Station, a new space in The IFB Beat designed to help you pause, reflect, and recharge. You won’t see it every week, but when it shows up, it’s here to motivate, challenge, and encourage you to bring your best — whether you’re on the clock or off. Think of it as a gentle nudge, a fresh perspective, and a reminder that your voice matters, your impact is real, and your mindset shapes everything.

When life gets busy, it’s easy to move through the day on autopilot. Inspiration Station is your moment to reset and refocus — because how we show up matters, and someone out there needs exactly what you bring.

“What I do isn’t important.”

I listened as they continued…

“My boss tells me it is, but I just don’t think so.”

I asked, “Do you trust your boss?”

“Oh yes!” they replied.

I prodded, “Does your boss tell the truth?”

“I see where you’re going with this,” they smiled.

“So, if your boss isn’t lying, what’s preventing you from believing them?”

My question hung in the air.

Then, they spoke the shift that was happening in their heart: “Maybe I’m a different kind of important.”

Yes. We’re all a different kind of important. Imagine if we were all the same kind of important. That would be a mess — and really crowded. What’s preventing you from believing — really believing — in the value you bring to the table?

Fore! The S.E.E. Summer Day Campers tried their hand at teeing off at Top Golf driving range in Greensboro. It takes some power for the computer to register the distance of the drive. The S.E.E. kids got into the swing of things during the two games we played. Even though we are not ready for the PGA circuit, it was a fun way to spend a morning.

The Disaster Relief Medicaid Act

Submitted by: Claire Stanley, J.D., Director of Advocacy and Governmental Affairs for American Council of the Blind

Here’s an opportunity to get involved. Congress, in both the House and Senate, has reintroduced the Disaster Relief Medicaid Act (DRMA). This bill, which has been introduced in several Congressional sessions, works to accommodate people with disabilities who are displaced after a major disaster. The bill will enable Medicaid services to easily move across state or county borders without the complicated and time-consuming burden of applying for coverage that keeps Medicaid recipients from the services they need. Click here to tell Congress to pass this important bill.
