Steps to S.E.E. Walkathon 2022

Mom and kid walk in forest

Steps to S.E.E. Walkathon is coming back! This year, our young S.E.E. participants throughout North Carolina and beyond will aim to walk 20 miles each and raise funds to help send their peers to S.E.E. summer camps! THANK YOU to all S.E.E. students, parents, and teachers last year for walking over 200 miles and raising over $25,000 for their program!

This year, during the months on March and April, let’s match and surpass that success gifting a S.E.E. summer camp experience to dozens of kids!

Steps to S.E.E. at a Glance

Between March 1 and April 30, S.E.E. students and friends in Asheville, Charlotte and Winston-Salem after school programs and beyond will rise up to the challenge to walk 20 miles each and solicit contributions to support them in raising funds for S.E.E. summer camps. Charlotte students will walk together weekly as well as independently and students and Asheville and Winston-Salem will choose the routes of their choice to walk. Each student is encouraged to link their miles tracking Strava account to their Just Giving fundraising page. S.E.E. program staff is their to help students create their accounts.

Another way to support: Jay Hardwig’s New Book!

Jay Hardwig with his new book, Just MariaJay Hardwig, former S.E.E. Program Manager in Asheville, has just published his first book, Just Maria! Congratulations, Jay! Just Maria is the story of Maria Romero, a blind sixth-grader who is trying her hardest to be normal. Her task is complicated by glass eyes, rutabagas, rubber chickens, and a child gone missing on the streets of Marble City. As you might guess, the spirit of our S.E.E. kids is strong in this book. Learn more, order a copy, or read Jay’s blog at

Jay will donate a portion of proceeds from all sales of Just Maria during our Steps to S.E.E. fundraiser this spring to support our summer camps this summer. Support S.E.E. students going to camp by ordering your copy now!
